Homework for 9/15

A piece of art I find to be activism would be "Silence = Death". This piece of art was used to spread awareness of the AIDS epidemic that was infamously ignored by the media and government. The art itself is quite simple, just a pink triangle and text talking about the government staying silent about AIDS. The "pink triangle" in question was used by the Nazis in the 1930s and 40s to identify gay men in concentration camps. In the 1970s, the triangle was revived as a symbol of protest against homophobia and has now since been adopted by the LGBTQ community as a symbol of pride. The "Silence = Death" piece was also used by ACT UP, the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power, in their campaign against the AIDS epidemic.

I was inspired by this piece of art because it shows people standing up to bring awareness to a topic ignored by the government and media. AIDS is a terrible thing to have, and the government was simply ignoring it, possibly in an attempt to save face. These people chose to stand up against these powers and spread awareness of the HIV and AIDS epidemic. I personally believe that that is a brave thing to do. That is why I am inspired by this work of art.

I had no clue how to inspire my selfie with a pink triangle, so I just sent a normal selfie.
