Homework for 9/15

 Artist:

The artist of the painting above is David Hockney. His Love Paintings were created in order to celebrate homosexual love. Since he is gay and it was illegal at the time in England, he would paint himself, creating gay art which flew under the radar. He was an artist who went against the generally-accepted social norms and led his life as an openly gay man.

Introduction:

My name is Jada Rodriguez. I am a psychology major with hopes of being a guidance counselor or a therapist for kids specifically. My nationality is Puerto Rican, Filipino and German. I recently came out of the closet after being in there for years as bisexual. Some hobbies of mine are playing video games, listening to music and sleeping. I am very shy at the first couple of interactions but once I open up then I'm really nice and care for others. This picture was taken at my first pride which was this year and attended my first drag show.

Inspiration:

David Hockney inspires me because he stayed true to himself no matter the consequences. People wanted LGBTQ members to be punished due to their sexuality so Hockney knew how much of a risk his paintings would be. He didn't care about what other people thought and didn't care for fitting in with society. Instead of seeing his sexuality as a problem or as something to hide, he celebrated it and wanted to live a life without apologizing for it.
