“For publicity the present by definition is insufficient. The oil painting was thought of as a permanent record. One of the pleasures a painting gave to its owner was the thought it could portray the present to the future of his descendants.”
“Being envied is a solitary form of reassurance. It depends precisely upon not sharing your experience with those who envy you. You are observed with interest but you do not observe with interest.”
I think the framing of advertisements is extremely interesting. What corporations think of their audience’s wants and desires. In contrast to traditional fine art, publicity is a constant revolving door that refuses to stay stagnant in order to adapt to their consumers' changing interest.THe malleability is what makes marketing so effective. With an oil painting it is what it is. A single piece that can only change in regards to the perception in its context.
