Following the theme of consumerism and identity, I have found three images that could fit these descriptions. They are Super Supper by Ron English, Store In A Dark Place by Ben Frost, and I Shop Therefore I Am by Barbara Kruger. I chose these pictures because they each fit the given theme of consumerism and identity.
The picture Super Supper by Ron English a parody of the art of the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. It depicts the Last Supper, but Jesus and his disciples are replaced with Ronald McDonald and other characters from media. This artwork could be a metaphor for consumerism and the media becoming a sort of "religion." Consumerism has become a sort of religion for some people, and the people in charge of these companies benefit from it.
The picture Store In A Dark Place depicts Mickey Mouse on a box of Prozac. Prozac is one of the most prescribed antidepressants in the world. This artwork, essentially, says that companies would put their stuff on anything to make even a cent of profit. Even on a controlled drug like Prozac, companies would stamp their stuff on anything, even if it might not make sense.
The picture I Shop Therefore I Am by Barbara Kruger simply shows a hand holding text that says "I shop therefore I am." This is based on the phrase "I think, therefore I am" stated by the French philosopher Rene Descartes. This piece plays on the fact that many people shop large amounts of stores to "prove their existence to companies." After all, why would a company care about someone that does not shop their stores.
These pieces all follow the theme of consumerism and the loss of identity. They show that companies only care for the money, not the people. These companies essentially rob the people of identity and make them into a "source of income". Some companies choose not to follow this approach, though some of them are not well known. Most of the company juggernauts around today follow this approach of "robbing the identity" to make money.
