Activist Artist

Hi, I’m Taina. I’m an Illustration major and I want to make comic books for a living. I chose Jeff Hong, a story board artist who puts together Disney characters and real life scenarios. There were a few to choose from, especially one with the pandemic. I decided to choose Ariel in the water covered with oil. It’s still a world issue but it’s not as talked about. i decided to put a spin to it and portray myself as water than Ariel. I felt like it was going to be a little harder since I would have had to portray a well known character. I was VERY picky with the colors I wanted for my makeup, eyeshadow and lipstick. I needed to practice how I wanted the eyeshadow to look like, more like a soft look or the opposite. The lipstick was very hard to get, I got it this Monday and wasn’t even sure if it would be what I wanted. A lady from Morphe store helped me out a lot and proposed this eyeshadow and could be used as lipstick. I was VERY grateful for her help. I wet my hair since it gets really dark and it could be like I was in oil kind of. I also put handprints on my chest to portray or represent oil companies “touching me” or the water, basically ruining its beauty or life. The mascara I ran down my cheeks was also supposed to represent oil. I had a lot of fun doing this and was very inspired by his work.
